Job description
On behalf of our client, a top-tier and rapidly expanding transportation investment company with a strong presence across shipping, intermodal, aviation, and rail, we are seeking a Financial Controller with at least five (5) years of relevant experience to join their growing Accounting & Finance team.
The successful candidate will support the financial operations of a growing shipowner group structure within a fast-paced, international, and multi-jurisdictional environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Financial control and oversight of periodic (monthly, quarterly, annual) close and reporting processes for sub-groups and designated fleets, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all reporting deliverables (Group GAAP, US GAAP, IFRS, etc.).
• Lead financial planning & analysis activities, preparing high-quality management reports, commentary, forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Technical, Commercial, Legal, and Newbuilding departments to enhance financial performance and support decision-making.
• Prepare financial performance reports (returns analysis, cash projections, expenditure monitoring, receivables management).
• Ensure compliance with loan covenants and coordinate effectively with banks and auditors.
• Oversee financial statement preparation (standalone and consolidated) and liaise with external auditors, tax practitioners, and third-party service providers.
• Support implementation of a global ERP and reporting system; manage ad-hoc projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Strengthen internal controls and drive process optimization across the group’s finance function.
• Evaluate financial, accounting, and reporting implications of investment structures and transactions (purchases, sales, financings).
• Support the shareholder group in the financial oversight and governance of independent portfolio businesses (e.g., container/railcar leasing).
• Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies, procedures, and best practices.
Job requirements
Skills & Qualifications
• ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent Chartered Accountant qualification is required.
• Strong financial and accounting experience, with a proven track record in controllership, reporting, and finance.
• Prior experience in audit, shipping, or transportation industries is highly desirable.
• Excellent command of the English language (verbal and written) and the ability to communicate effectively with senior management.
• Solid understanding of US GAAP and IFRS, with the ability to analyze and reconcile across different frameworks.
• Highly motivated, proactive, and adaptable, with a strong “can-do” and hands-on attitude.
• Strong analytical and project management skills; ability to synthesize data, make recommendations, and drive results.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and comfortable adopting new technologies and systems.
• Exceptional organizational skills, capable of handling multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• Collaborative team player, able to work effectively both independently and within a multicultural team environment.
