Deputy Sales Director

  • On-site
    • Larnaca, Cyprus

Job description

Our client is a long-established, family-owned business operating in the animal nutrition and health sector in Cyprus. With several decades of presence in the market, the company has built its position on continuous investment in innovation and quality, supplying farmers, veterinarians, pet shop owners and consumers across the island.

Due to the expansion of its operations, our client is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of Deputy Sales Director.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Deputy Sales Director will work alongside the Sales Director in leading the commercial function across all business units. The role carries direct accountability for sales and gross profit delivery, the commercial process and sales team capability, and cross-departmental alignment.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build the sales and gross profit budget with each business unit. Review actual performance monthly, identify any causes of variance and follow through on the agreed corrective actions.

  • Track market share and customer penetration for strategic products. Set penetration targets with the business units and monitor progress.

  • Look for growth opportunities within and between Business Units: underserved customers, under-penetrated products and channels not yet used.

  • Develop export opportunities. Identify target markets, partners and distributors, prepare the business case and execute once approved.

  • Monitor raw material and commodity markets, and use this as input to pricing for the products affected.

  • Hold responsibility for strategic customers and designated key accounts, and remain accountable for their retention, growth and profitability.

  • Cross-sell the full product range into key accounts rather than one business unit at a time.

  • Agree the volume and value forecasts committed to key suppliers, and monitor performance against them through the year.

  • Work with key suppliers to deliver the agreed joint business plans, covering launches, promotions, targets and marketing support, and hold both sides to what was committed.

  • Run the weekly, monthly and quarterly commercial meetings.

  • Recruit, coach and develop sales representatives together with the business unit managers.

  • Build the capability of the commercial teams over time through product and selling skills, structured training, and a clear view of who is ready for more responsibility.

  • Work with supply chain so that production, purchasing and logistics match what the commercial plan requires.

  • Contribute to the marketing plan and support its execution. Align with marketing and the business units on promotions, trade marketing, new product launches and branding.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Commercial management experience leading a sales team or managers – ideally has managed managers or a multi-territory team.

  • Fluency with a P&L: gross profit and margin, not just revenue. Comfortable building and defending a budget.

  • Credibility with technical sales teams and customers.

  • Willing to spend time in the field regularly; not an office-only manager.

  • Strong with numbers and systems (ERP, data reporting).

  • Greek and English.

Desirable

  • Experience in animal health, animal nutrition, feed, or pharmaceutical distribution.

  • Exposure to export development or omnichannel / modern trade channels.

WHAT’S OFFERED

  • 13th salary

  • Provident fund

  • Birthday leave

  • 21 to 23 days of paid annual leave

  • Group insurance plan

  • 24-hour accident cover
